As we hear any further developments we will post them here so do come back.

The Decision!

(22 January 2008)

The meeting started with the chairman, Councilor Keith Wood, announcing that they were modifying the proposal so that the restrictions would apply from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday only.

This is a major success for the campaign for a reasonable solution to the parking problems in our area of Weeke.

It is NOT a solution to the problem. As we say on the Home Page, the problem will change in two ways:

  • The gaps in the proposed yellow lines will very quickly be filled with student parking which will make day time parking for residents harder.
  • The problem will also shift further into Weeke towards Harestock. Much of Stoney Lane has no parking restrictions and it is a much busier road!

One member of the public expressed concerns over safety for children being picked up from Weeke School. This problem was pointed out at the start of the campaign. The council have committed to reviewing the issue after the restrictions have been in place for three months.

We shall be monitoring this issue very carefully.

Report Available On-line

(15 January 2008)

I have managed to obtain a link to the report being presented at the meeting. You can download the report here.

Basically, the council acknowledge the opposition but plan to ignore it.

Council Letter Drop Has Taken Place

(10 January 2008)

The Council have delivered the letter they promised notifying us of when the Committee is meeting.

The meeting is on Tuesday 22nd January 2008 at 9:30am in the Walton Room of the Guildhall, Winchester.

May I draw your attention to the paragraph of the Council’s letter which reads, “It is still the Council’s contention that the restrictions as proposed …… should be introduced….”

I fear that the rest of the letter, and the vote we have been asked to complete, is mere “dressing” or camouflage to hide the fact that the Council intend to ignore the residents feelings and press on regardless.

Committee Date Announced

(17 December 2007)

Neville Crisp (Traffic Engineer) has today emailed me to advise me of the date for the committee meeting. "The meeting is on Tuesday 22nd January 2008 at 9:30am in the Walton Room of the Guildhall, Winchester."

Mr Crisp has also confirmed that a letter drop will take place to all the affected homes.

I plan to attend and speak at the meeting and, whilst I realise it is a working day, if any others can be there there it would help to add weight to our demands.

Back To Committee

(15 November 2007)

Neville Crisp (Traffic Engineer) has today emailed me to confirm that he has discussed the proposals with our councilors following the public meeting on 9 Nov 2007.

The issue is going back to committee and Mr Crisp is, "hopeful that we can come to a satisfactory solution."

He also mentioned that he will be "letter dropping all residents once the meeting details have been confirmed".

Have Your Say!

(14 November 2007)

There is a press report on the parking issues in Weeke can be found at www.thisishampshire.net.

The reporter has managed to confirm from the council that the "one size fits all" policy does exist. Quoting Neville Crisp, "A variance from this scheme could cause problems with enforcement and we need to ensure that any new scheme can be effectively implemented."
