General Information

I was born in 1952, was given the name of Stephen John Reginald Feeney and grew up in the town of Ventnor on the Isle of Wight.  I have two sisters who are older than me and a brother.

I was a Craft Apprentice in the Royal Air Force at RAF Locking and was part of 213th Entry.  (I'd love to hear from anybody who was there at the same time).

I left the air force after five years and settled in Winchester after a year working in Surrey.

I am now married with three children, two boys and a girl.  My family life is very special to me, but we do not plan to make it part of this site, so unfortunately there'll be no 'online photo albums'.

Interests

From quite an early age I was interested in broadcasting, both radio and television.   Whilst in the RAF I became involved in 'campus radio' and, when abroad, I made programmes for the BFBS affiliated station Radio Gan.  When I left the RAF, I ran my own disco in the 'glitsie' days of the seventies and became involved in Hospital Radio.   I did programmes for Kingston Hospital Radio, Southampton & Winchester Hospital Broadcasting Association (HBA) and I was one of the founding members of Winchester Hospital Radio and held positions of Programme controller in the beginning and later I was Chairman for a few years.   I was recently presented a long service award from the National Association of Hospital Broadcasting Associations.   I also did a short spell of programmes on the commercial station, Radio Victory which was replaced by Ocean Sound (now Ocean FM).

Steve Feeney at 12 years of ageI am still a member of Winchester Hospital Radio and hold the post of Vice Chairman. I do less these days because, when my eldest son was a Cub Scout, I some how managed to get talked into being an Assistant Cub Scout Leader.  This is a very challenging and rewarding pass time and it doesn't leave much time for broadcasting.  Scouting does mean that I meet a lot of different people and I have learnt a lot about managing and motivating people.  It has broadened my mind too as I have researched various activities.

I don't think that there is a lot of point in doing something unless it is done well and I like to think that I help to run one of the most successful Cub Scout Packs in Winchester.

Since my Mum died, I have become increasingly interested in our family tree and along with my sister I am researching our ancestry.  Follow the link on the right hand panel to learn more.
